Trommershausser Heads 764th Men
Major John Trommershausser of Chicago, Ill., is the fourth commander to receive a promotion while in command of the 764th Bomb Squadron. He entered into his present duties March 8, 1945 and was promoted to Major within three weeks.
Formerly the Group Air Inspector, Major Trommershausser has flown 26 combat missions. In addition to the Air Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, he has been awarded the DFV for the March 16 mission to the Moosbierbaum Oil Refineries. He has flown as Group and Deputy Group leader.
The three other commanders of the 764th who have received a promotion in office have been Major Marion C. Mixson, Major Edwin T. Goree, and Capt. Albert O. Witte.
When John Trommerhausser assumed command of the 764th Squadron he was replaced on the crew by John McCauley (1092). Bob Roemer (co-pilot) moved over to the left seat.
Robert C. Helt (RO) and Jay Berwanger (G) joined the crew at some time but I cannot remember who they replaced or why. I also cannot remember who took over as Engineer when Russ was MIA.
